Cyber Essentials is a government backed scheme providing certifications to businesses and organisations that have achieved a recognised level of IT security standards.

What is the difference between Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials PLUS?

The advanced Cyber Essentials Plus scheme taking into consideration more potential threat vectors and expects a higher standard of Cyber Security practices within the business.

Additional requirements are made in the assessment process, including security testing of certain parts of your the higher grade comes with the additional benefits in security and reputation that achieving the grade imply.

What is the process involved to achieve the Cyber Essentials certification?

For the Cyber Essentials (CE) basic certification you are required to complete and evidence a self-assessment questionnaire. The questionnaire is reviewed and if everything checks out you gain the certification.

For the Cyber Essentials PLUS (CE+) you will be required to complete a similar, although more comprehensive self-assessment questionnaire. Then our consultants will evaluate your external security controls to ensure protection against internet borne threats. Next, our consultants will evaluate your end-user devices against five key control points and finally you will achieve the certification.

What does the self-assessment involve?

Devices, Servers, Personal Devices known as BYOD (Bring Your Own Devices), Cloud services such as IAAS, and Network tools such as Firewalls are involved. This can be a comprehensive process.

Lots of organisations try to begin the Cyber Essentials certification without advanced preparation which sometimes means that the certification isn’t passed successfully the first time.
